Movie Club

I am joining a book club because I love to read and want to be able to talk about it with a group of people. Plus I'm still new in the city and meeting like-minded people is a good thing.

So with this on my mind I started reading about a classic movie that I've never seen before. I thought wouldn't it be cool to have a movie club? It would almost be just like a book club except we'd get together and watch classic movies.

Has anyone heard of people having a club like this before? I know a few places that show classic movies during the summer outdoors but I haven't heard of something like this.

Here's what I'm envisioning we'll meet up at someone's house preferably someone with a huge TV and killer surround sound. The group would have selected a theme for example romance. The host would select the movie and create (or look up) discussion questions. After the movie we would have snacks and a awesome discussion and vote on the next theme.

Doesn't this sound like fun? I took a black cinema class at Howard and I loved it. We watched many classic movie relating to Blacks and/or how they are portrayed in movies. We had awesome discussions and I was able to watch a bunch of movies I would not have normally watched. I basically want to replicate this with my movie club.

My major concern is if this is sustainable. How long before members would get bored and stop attending? Are people interested in watching movies with others? How would we get the movies to watch?

I love EHOW- they literally have directions on how to start a movie club. See I knew I was on to something. I'm going to dig a little deeper. I just may start a movie club.
